About the “Mada Hackathon”

The Mada Hackathon, is a uniquely designed competition from Challenge to Prototype in 48 Hours that focuses on individuals and teams of designers, teachers, academics, students, software developers and the best-in-class innovators to develop an Accessible Open Educational Resources in Arabic language based on the Mada open-access resources: Tawasol Symbols, Unified Arabic Braille, Buhamad Sign Language Interpreter Avatar.

The Hackathon will be a two-day event where Mada will open the podium for creative minds from schools, universities, individuals, and end-users from all Qatar to meet for 48 hours to solve specific problems for trend topics in accessible open educational resources using Mada open-access resources.

The Hackathons will take place in a unique environment that encourages creative thinking that leads to astonishing innovative concepts, ideas, and prototypes. This hackathon will provide an opportunity for brilliant teachers, students and designers to create their works with the help of mentors and experts, who together with the panel of judges will be on hand throughout the day, while also experiencing the unforgettable thrill of coming together with peers who share the same passion for accessible educational resources.

Eligibility

The Mada Hackathon’ is open to those who are interested in developing open educational resources. The event is open to individuals or team of individuals in the categories of:

  • Teachers
  • Academics
  • Students
  • Startups
  • Developers
  • Designers

Participation is open to individuals aged 18 or older.

Award Categories

The hackathon will constitute of four winning categories as follow:

Unified Arabic Braille Portal

Winners

Best Accessible-OER using Unified Arabic Braille resources:

  • 1st place: QAR 10,000
  • 2nd place: QAR 7,500
  • 3rd place: QAR 5,000
Tawasol Symbols

Winners

Best Accessible-OER using Tawasol resources:

  • 1st place: QAR 10,000
  • 2nd place: QAR 7,500
  • 3rd place: QAR 5,000
Jumla Sign Language

Winners

Best Accessible-OER using Jumla Sign Language Resources:

  • 1st place: QAR 10,000

Award Prizes

Each winner for each category will receive the following:

  • Cheque with award value according to the rank and category
  • Medal (Gold, Silver, or Bronze according to the rank)
  • Certificate for all places and Jury members
  • Trophy for 1st place only and Jury members
  • Badge (printed sticker and digital sticker with pre-written caption for social media)
  • Special invitation to contribute in Nafath newsletter

All participants will receive “participation certificate” and a privilege to publish their resources in the dedicated portal according to the category under CC copyright.
